Silver Streaks Set to Embark on July Recruiting Trail(PHOENIX, July 2, 2009) -- Beginning Sunday, July 5th, the Arizona Silver Streaks will embark on their American road trip with hopes of catching the watchful eyes of college basketball coaches from around the country. A year ago, an Arizona club-high nine players from the Silver Streaks impressed coaches enough with their play during the important NCAA July viewing period to earn college scholarships. Five players from last year's team earned NCAA Division I basketball scholarships and this year's crop of Silver Streaks players should be equally impressive. The Streaks and Head Coach Blanca Garcia will be playing in four NCAA sanctioned tournament in July, starting with the End of the Oregon Trail near Portland (July 6-9), followed by a flight to Chicago to play in the NIKE Summer Showcase (July 11-14). After seven days off, the Streaks will play in the NIKE Oasis Invitational in Phoenix (July 22-25) and finish the month with a four-day tournament in San Diego (July 27-30). Six Streaks Play in 2009 ABCA All-Star Game(PHOENIX, May 30, 2009) -- Six Silver Streaks from the Class of 2009, all who have earned college scholarships and will enroll in college later this summer, played in the 2009 Arizona Basketball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Star Game on Saturday at US Airways Center. Five of the Streaks, including Morgan Wohltman (Highland HS/Idaho State), Sara Nicholson (Mt. View HS/Pima CC), Tyler Stephens-Jenkins (St. Mary's HS/Northern Arizona), Erica Olsen (Mt. View HS/Mesa CC), and Chanel Thorley (Highland HS/Southern Utah) played on the South All-Star team, while Nicole Coggins (Corona del Sol HS/Denison University) played on the North All-Star team. The South All-Stars won, 82-76, over the North All-Stars. |
Mother's Day Special: 14U Streaks Win 3rd Straight(PHOENIX, May 10, 2009) -- The player's on the 14-and-under Arizona Silver Streaks gave their mother's a gift on Sunday by capturing their third consecutive club championship, winning the May Madness Tournament. Streaks' Jacobs Among Arizona's Elite Sprinters(CHANDLER, Ariz., May 16, 2009) -- Silver Streaks point guard Shannon Jacobs, a junior at Highland High School in Gilbert, captured three medals and established two personal records at the 2009 Arizona Class 5A State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Chandler High School. Jacobs sprinted to second place in the 200 meters with a personal record of 25.23, placed third in the 100 meter dash (12.29), and leaped to a personal best of 17'-8.75" in the long jump for a fourth place finish. Earlier this season (April 29), the Highland standout ran a personal best of 12.13 in the 100 meters at the Tribune Invitational, clocking the fastest time in Arizona's Class 5A in 2009. |
Two In A Row for 14U Silver Streaks(PHOENIX, May 3, 2009) -- The 14-and-under Arizona Silver Streaks won their second consecutive tournament on Sunday, capturing the Arizona Venom Tournament by posting a 37-19 win over the Arizona Premier in the title game held at Grand Canyon University. The Streaks, who went 4-0 in the tournament, held the Premier to just four second half points en route to winning the championship. |
